Jennifer Alvarado is not only a Singer/ Songwriting sensation but was on the NASDAQ billboard in Times Square several years ago, but not for music.... She was a paralegal at the time for a telecommunications company that was announcing their stock becoming public.

The surprises keep coming and she's always making a statement!

Make a statement that is yours and yours only!

I have two. I’ve always said “I would rather fail than never try.” And I have a tendency of misremembering phrases, character’s names and basic words at times. I could not remember the character “Debbie Downer” from SNL when I was talking to my husband about someone being very negative, so I called the person a real “Suzy Letdown.” Ever since then, my husband and our closest friends like to use that against me.

How are you making a statement with your latest music?

I hope my statement is that it is okay to be vulnerable and authentic with your storytelling. Life can be challenging at times. I think that is one reason we have the gift of music and I think by being honest about how you are feeling, you can in turn help someone express emotion.

Continuing a career of this magnitude takes so much work! How are you making it all happen?

Ultimately, I just want to help the world be a better place. I realize that may sound extremely cliche and idealistic, but that is my goal with music and my life. I want to help people. I want people to know they are not alone with whatever they may be going through. And I believe it goes beyond what I am capable of doing in my own strength, so my faith is what sustains me and helps make it happen.

Does it feel like more work than play most times?

I believe anything worth having in life takes work. The creative side - performing, writing and recording - that’s the fun stuff. But there’s also work that has to be done. I don’t enjoy marketing. I especially hate the promoting side of things because I am always afraid of bothering people. So that feels like work to me…however, I have always loved a challenge and hard work. Talent may get you in the room, but hard work and determination is what will keep you there. I never want to take anything for granted.

How do you make sure you get in the spirit of WHY you got into a career of music?

I try to remember the little girl that sat in her room and dreamed of being able to do this. I was a shy kid for the most part. I’ve always been introverted and especially in middle school, I felt like an outsider. Music saved me. It gave me a voice and purpose and so when I want to give up, I remember that 11 year old kid that thought anything was possible. I found friends in the artists I listened to and I want to be that for someone else.

What is the WHY for you to stay on track in this career?

My WHY is to give a voice to the voiceless. I think this world tries to quiet you. It can make you feel like you don’t matter because you don’t look like this or sound like that. My WHY is to help others see the power of their own voice. Everyone has a story. Everyone has something in their life that is broken. I believe those broken pieces are how we learn to connect and help others.

Give us the details of how you're doing right now?

Honestly, I’m happier than I have ever been. I am trying to make decisions for going forward and what will and will not work with my schedule. I am performing at new venues and on my own more than I’ve ever been. I dealt with some anxiety a few months ago, but I have been able to work through that and now use it to keep me driven, but not fearful. This journey is new to me, but I am enjoying being in the moment. That’s weird for a planner like me.

The details of how your music is doing! We want to know what we should be listening to?

I actually just released my latest single “Rock This Way.” And part one of my album “Songbird” will be released on July 24th (which also happens to be my birthday)…so shameless plug help me celebrate my birthday by checking it out ;)
