Catching Up With Joey Stuckey!

Hi Joey! Great to speak with you! Great to be here!

You are getting ready to release a Christmas song! How fun! Will you tell us about it? Yeah, I just released my Christmas single for 2021 “Jingle Bells”. I am so excited for the Stuckeyverse to hear it and to see the cover done by my friend and outstanding graphic artist Darrin Melchiorre, who has done work for Melissa Etheridge, Pepsi and Magic Johnson Enterprises, just to name a few. More importantly, he is a trusted artist that can communicate visually my musical intention--something I can’t do as a blind person! You can find the single on your favorite streaming service and for digital download on iTunes, Amazon, etc. If you like my version of “Jingle Bells”, please check out my Christmas EP “A Santa That Plays Guitar”. iTunes Link for “Jingle Bells” iTunes Link for “A Santa That Plays Guitar” EP YouTube Lyric Video “Jingle Bells”

How did you decide which song you wanted to cover? Great question. It is hard to pick just one Christmas song, so many great ones out there, but I have done this funky version of “Jingle Bells” for years and decided it was time to get it out there. Joining me on percussion is my dear friend Miguel Castro, an ARC recording artist and one of the greats, he really brings something to this track. He also lends his voice to a speaking part of the song where we bring out a new verse of the classic song I bet most people have never heard! I promise, it is worth 3 minutes of your time to listen LOL!

What can listeners expect from your version of this song? My signature guitar and bass playing along with my “wild man” vocals and a great sense of fun and holiday cheer. But also the mad skills of my friend Miguel, as I said above, and some great keys performed by another dear friend Nestor Jeanz. Plus, there is that unique verse I told you about LOL, you’ll just have to take a listen LOL.

What is your all-time favorite holiday song? I can’t just pick one!!! From “Christmas At Ground Zero” by Weird Al to “The Christmas Song” by Mel Torme to “Oh Come All Ye Faithful” to the entire “Charlie Brown Christmas” album to the music of the “Nutcracker”, I just love holiday music and love this time of year. I’ll let you in on a secret, I already have my tree up and decorated and at the time of this interview, it is only 11/12!

On the topic of the holidays, do you have a favorite holiday tradition? I love taking time out of the whirlwind of the music biz to reconnect with family and friends. I try really hard to slow down from mid-December to the first of the year to rest and tell people that I love how much I appreciate them! I also love that it is really about the only time my family gets together to cook and everyone helps out, even the blind man as I assist my wife with her dressing and also the cranberry sauce! And of course, I love giving and receiving presents and also doing something for those less fortunate. My heart is with the amazing people in our health care system as I was a very sick child that was well taken care of and my wife is an advanced practiced nurse so we try to take some Christmas cheer to the hospitals and it means a lot to me to give back.

Any other upcoming projects you want everyone to know about? Well I do have a new album almost ready for release for Spring 2022 and a live album I need to mix and my next jazz/fusion record, but who knows if those will come out next year, we’ll just have to see.
