Lánre is breaking the mold each and every time with more and more of his music! Today he is here with us to talk about that process and MORE!
How has it been creating new music for you?
I love it! Writing music has its ebbs and flows as far as inspiration goes, but regardless it's such a rewarding process that I love doing.
How do you go about creating your new vibe for your music?
It really depends on the track. I'm definitely a chameleon when it comes to different vibes with music. I show different sides of my personality based on what the track requires of me.
How much time did you spend on this latest music?
The last song I wrote took me only a few days to write from start to finish. The initial draft usually doesn't take long, but if you factor in rewrites and getting feedback, it can be much longer than that to get to the finished product.
Do you ever spend time just circling around the music and worry about letting it go?
All the time. That's why it's important to be working on multiple songs at once. It's very easy to overthink or 'overcook' a song, so when I feel like I'm getting to the point of fatigue, I move on to a different song. Revisiting a song after taking a break from it can actually be very rewarding!
What do you grip onto most when it comes to the creative process?
I think about how the listener is going to perceive the song the most when I'm writing. I like to give people a sonic experience with my songs from the lyrics to the instruments of the beat. I'm always making decisions with the listeners in mind so that they can really engage with the song.
What was your writing process like and how did it affect you?
I have a long list of phrases and thoughts that I've collected over the past couple of years that I use as starting points for my writing. I then let the beat or melody inform the real 'meat' of the song from there. This is a very therapeutic process that helps me dive more into my own psyche and learn more about myself. It's one of my favorite things about writing music.
Who do you trust to give advice if something is ready or not?
I usually don't let people outside of the producer or co-writer I'm working with to listen to songs before they're finished. But I have some trusted industry friends that I count on to give me feedback on my songs and I really trust my family to tell me the quality of my unreleased music. It's really important to have people around me that tell me the unfiltered truth, because it's just helping me and my music become even better!
