Trevor James is a multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriter from the Pocono Mountains of northeastern Pennsylvania. Trevor's love for music arose from his time playing in high school bands with friends (initially with the sole intent of trying to impress the ladies), though he soon found himself feeling a genuine passion for writing, recording, and performing music. Upon graduating, Trevor put music on the backburner to focus on college studies. However, in 2019, Trevor rediscovered his love for music after trying his hand at solo acoustic style music. Starting initially with cover videos, the success of Trevor's talents saw him quickly amass an impressive social media following, which inspired him to have a go at writing his own material. Trevor’s first EP “Breakthrough” was recorded entirely in his makeshift bedroom studio and was released in late-2020. One track from that EP (“Rendezvous”) then went on to feature on local radio station 97.9x Rocks, as well as popular Philly station Alt 104.5, where Trevor was also interviewed and performed live in Spring of 2021. Trevor released his much anticipated single "Again" in June 2022, followed by "Comfort" in August - both of which he got the opportunity to perform on the Wish USA Bus in Hollywood, CA that same month. Look out for more to come from Trevor later this year! So great to have you interview with us Trevor! What have you been up to?

Thanks for having me! I've been working on a top secret project... JK, the secret's out - I'm planning out an upcoming EP that I just began working on, so I'm REALLY excited about that. Any creative risks you have taken lately that have paid off?

Actually yes! Well, the final results are yet to be seen but I recently took what some may consider a creative risk in deciding to work with a new producer on this upcoming EP. I have great relationships with all the producers I've worked with in the past, I just feel that certain projects and songs may be better suited for one person/team versus another. What would you like to master when it comes to your music?

When it comes to my music, I would love to master vocal control - inflections, tonality, pitch, range/dynamics, anything and everything related to singing. I had learned to play instruments like guitar, piano, and drums (albeit at an amateur level) when I was fairly young, but didn't start taking singing seriously until much later. So it would be awesome to master that. Can you take us into the music making of your new music?

Sure! So my actual music-making process doesn't usually change from song to song, and my new music is really no exception. I typically start by using a phone voice recorder app to record a set of chords and strumming pattern on my acoustic guitar, and then play it back on repeat to figure out the kind of vocal melody I'd like to use for the verse, chorus, etc. The lyrics are usually the final part of my writing process, tweaking and re-tweaking the actual words and theme of a song. Next I'll record the foundational elements of the music for the song, followed by the vocals, and then typically work with my producer to figure out what else the song needs before polishing it up into a finished product ready for the world to hear. Less is more or more is more when it comes to your music?

This is a great question. I'm not the type of artist to prefer a TON of different sounds etc. on a song, but I'm also not necessarily always a minimalist. I would say that in regards to my music, it really depends on the specific song. Some songs may call for more, but others might definitely call for less. Any hidden meanings in your music you'd like to share?

Well I wouldn't necessarily refer to it as a hidden meaning, but a constant I typically try to adhere to is the oft positive/clean lyrics of the songs I write. I guess you could say that a "hidden" goal of mine when it comes to my music is to help contribute towards influencing the younger generations in a positive way, making it "cool" to be good instead of glorifying activity that most of us would recognize as objectively negative or wrong. Any predictions about your career for next year?

Definitely! Regarding my career this next year, I'll be placing a huge focus on playing & performing live way more frequently than I have been lately. It's something I've admittedly neglected in the past, but after this upcoming EP is released I'll be looking forward to promoting the songs to new audiences and potential fans anywhere I can - whether that means tours, festivals, smaller venues, or even open mics.. no opportunity is too small. Is there a dream goal you are daydreaming about?

The dream goal I've been day-dreaming about recently is to one day play an original song of mine on one of the major late-night shows on TV today (e.g. Fallon, Kimmel, etc.). I hope to live out that dream someday, but I also recognize that to make it happen I can't spend too much time day-dreaming and neglect actually getting things done!
